Re: Coolant system question

There couldn't have been many that had that cap then, no wonder I hadn't heard of them - my van being an 87 I didn't need to look that far back onto pre-history!

Re: Coolant system question

I didn't know that they made a metal cap for diesels - mine always had a normal plastic one. Never heard of a metal one.

Re: Gas and electric safety certs

It used to be that these certs were only legally required for vehicles that were hired out as a business - may have changed in the intervening years though. I think that converters get them to cover their arses when completing an installation.

If you are talking about the fuse inside the box - I think that it is 2A going by previous posts.

Re: is BBB kaput / How do I fit a Victron

Yes. If you have checked that it has continuity that is fine. This blows if the coil overheats, usually around 130 deg.
Will need to search elsewhere then.

Have you checked the thermal fuse in the bottom pic?

Re: Colortune

I used to use one in the 70's for my bikes also! Still managed to burn a hole in a piston when a carb went out of tune on a 200 mile run. Are they really that price now?
I now use a gas analyzer.

Re: was this an earth problem ?

I would take a wild guess at the fact that somehow you have put all the starter power through the braid due to the lack of another earth!
Who knows what route the power took to get there.

Re: Voltage Stabilizer

Stolen a pic from an old post, you can see it mounted upside down - you can't see a heatsink though so I presume that they didn't use one ( they should have done ) Ignore the finger as that was something else:

Re: Voltage Stabilizer

Just need a suitable thickness piece of aluminium, it provides contact for the heatsink as the 7810 is mounted with its back uppermost. You will see when you fit it.
Some years ago I found a source for the original chips - they were over £70 each! A 7810 can be had for 50p.
