Re: early to late engine swap
Hi-I'm not an expert but I can tell you a little from my own recent experience. My 85 DG blew up (valve embedded in piston etc.) It turned out to be an OLD DG with the main differences being: Crank bearings are not the same: OLD engine:bearings different size and integral thrust flanges-NEW engine: ...

Re: rocker assembly
not sure if this helps but 4 things come to mind from my w/c dg : assuming that you know these are the right rods and rocker sets: are rods centred in the tappets, they slip off centre easily? adjustable end of rockers go to valve stems not rods rocker shaft mounting brackets should be fitted with t...

Bench test of water jacket seals
I have spent the last 2 months rebuilding my DG. It is now nearly ready to go in. Every time I think of the design of the waterseals I am scared of failure, although I have never had one go on me and i know there are many who stand by it. However, the idea of putting it back in and finding that my w...

Re: Waterpump Issue
hi, welcome lower right hand nut of three is hard to get at on pump flange depending on range of tools you have. you can take of the coolant return pipe from the right hand head that goes into the thermo housing your arrow points to by undoing two bolts on pipe flange first, pipe then just pulls out...

Re: cylinder liners base and top seals-sealant or not?

cylinder liners base and top seals-sealant or not?
Any views please on the use of any sealant mastic in addition to the new rubber rings and well cleaned and flatted mating surfaces? I can see haynes/bentley don't suggest it but I wondered if regular rebuilders used something to "help" a potentially fragile design and if so- what?. Have lo...

DG Oil Pick up/screen removal
Have my engine cracked and clean on the bench waiting for an OLD STYLE THRUST BEARING but reluctant to remove oil pick up tube as it is resistant to removal. Have taken out lower securing bolt on screen housing but tube does not want to come away easily from socket in crankcase. Should I just puill ...

DG oil pump gears and other questions re DG/2.1 options
just noticed that each of the oil pump gears have a dot stamped on two of their teeth. In rebuilding is it necessary to align these dots please? Is it true that a DG/DF case can accommodate a 2.1 crank with minor modifications and, if so, are there suitable liners and heads that fit to the Dg/DF cas...

Re: valve guide replacement 1.9 wbx
Cheers for that, have acquired two spare heads in far better nick than existing so have done a straight replacement with those (valve guide wear low and faces etc in good nick) but may well get them leak tested as suggested. Thanks for the help

valve guide replacement 1.9 wbx
Hi hope you all well Have my engine completely stripped at present following dropped valve shattering a piston into crankcase etc. Am basically doing a diy recon including new valves but have found valve movement near or just above the bentley spec of 1.2 mm. so don't really want to go to all this t...

Hybrid Engine but not a Prius+Ignition query
Hi Have looked in threads and wiki and elsewhere but can't see anything on this. I am trying to sort out a longstanding cold start and missing problem. I want to get the ignition completely eliminated before messing with fuel side which has led me to some fundamental questions which have never bothe...

urgent: ignition amplifier-hall control/hall sender/coil
anyone in shrewsbury area got any of these hanging about please! have just been towed home-HT spark went briefly intermittent then died. Coil resistance readings are not in line with bentley but it's not an original coil so not sure if that's an issue. . Am getting battery voltage on terminals 2 and...
