Stupid engine swap Q

Post by matt »

dont ask why, but whats needed to put a 1.9 dg on a carb from a 2wd into a 2.1 dj syncro ?
:)

Exhaust,
engine mounting bar,
sheet metal above the exhaust,
oil filler tube,
Syncro DG has a spacer plate between the carb and manifold to raise it up when you're going through water.. up to you on this one,
Remove electric fuel pump as it'll have too much pressure for the carb and use stock DG one,
Air filter etc... I'd expect that the syncro DG airfilter is specific again for driving in water or mud.
2.1 Has oil cooler (oil/water), DG doesn't so you'll have to mess around with water pipes etc.

Can't think of much else at the mo.

Oh... re-exhaust, if its an early DG with the early style exhaust, you can leave it on and add the syncro angled pieces which kick the silencer up out of the way.
If its the late style then you need to change only the front section (section nearest the gearbox). Only reason for needing to change it is the protection bars won't fit up with the 2wd ehaust

Or... swap all yer 2.1 parts to the 1.9... wont be very powerfull (Time it for 10 deg BTDC or a fraction more!! on 98UL..), but would prob work.. or swap the syncro exhaust and use the dg carb fuel pump etc.. connection to 2.1 airfilter should work... the later DG had the same style airbox and filter anyway.. so long as the rubbers etc are there..

Trick is to swap the parts you have too.. lecy fuel pump, bypass with a bit of hose and pull the power relay.. (block the hose connections on the pump though.. stop the mud getting in...)

This is the last time I'll say it - but I don't think he should sell it.....

And the ones of you who've e-mailed asking for bits off it - you're a bunch of bloody vultures.......

Er, if you go for it, I don't think that one's optional, eh Matt - splosh, splosh :)

Perhaps it sounds worse than it is, aren't most of those bits on your 2.1 already? If it's known to be a cracking good lump, and if the carb's not knackered, might be worth it, esp. as it's much less dependent on those bloody awful ecu hangers on.

My advice... take further advice :!:

The card is higherb to prevent fluding because of hight of tank nothing to do with water. The carb also has some extra bits to prevent starvation at extreme angles.
Matt there are a lot more differences than listed above if u want the ins and outs about is give me a call and i'll spill the beans.
I can provide a proper manifold and extra carb bits if u need.
And to all u valtures out there hands off!

Not a lot, as you have all the bits already... provided they're not totally mullered by now :)

Inlet stuff, exhaust and support bar are all I can think of, but then I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but doubt it will be critical...
