Yes, but the circlips holding the pins on the UJ in place are very tight, so you may have a bit of fun extracting them! I levered them out with a pair of snipe-nose pliers and a small flat-bladed screwdriver. You need to make sure they go back in fully home, or the pins will wear the yoke in the lin...

Sorry for the delay; my garage currently resembles an explosion in a hardware store - yes, the resto is underway, pics soon - so it took me a while to find the tub. The genuine grease is "Polyurea Grease": VAG part number G 052 142 A2 (400g tub). A note on the tub reads: "For use unde...

Replacement mattress foam?

Finally got a Vanagon R'n'R rear seat for my early 'Velle, but the mattress - the bit that fits in the rear loadspace - is missing its foam. Can anyone suggest where I can get a replacement foam from, or the dimensions it should be (and the right foam density) so I can get one cut? (1983 Caravelle w...

Should go quite well, that.. but it might be worth checking that a Scooby conversion isn't a cheaper way to get similar horsepower. The Wasserboxer can be temperamental even in standard tune, so it might be a bit fragile when turbo'd; the Scooby 2.5 from the Legacy is close to bulletproof and might ...

Yes, it's original. My friend has a Whitestar multivan and it has two of these shelves. They fit between the front seats and the rear-facing seats on both sides. They do rattle a bit but they're handy for maps and things.

The special grease is an olefin type, and is the easiest way to part with £25 for 500g that I know. VW dealers still stock it. I'll have a look at the reference numbers on the tub (i.e. the SAE standards which it has to meet) and post them later; you may be able to match them with a lubricant suppli...

Replace the fuel filter and the short length of hose between the fuel tank outlet and the filter - total cost about £5. Also check that the distributor's vacuum advance unit isn't sticking. Worth checking the timing too; they do slip. If that doesn't work, check the plasticky mounting spacer/insulat...

If the cup turns out to be badly worn, they're still available from VW and Just Kampers. I removed the linkage and pushed the springpin out with an M6 bolt and a vice; the cup then slides off the end of the link rod. The boot is an easy slip-fit over the cup but it's better to slide it over the ball...

Mine did the same in December. I'm going to fit a known-good used heater assembly, as I don't want to have to strip the dash out again when the existing bearing seizes up the next time...

If you're already on H4 headlamps and the reflectors are clean and corrosion-free, upgrade to "Osram Silver Star +50%" or "Phillips Vision Plus 30" bulbs. Makes quite a difference. About £18 per pair, and no hassle fiddling about with wiring.

On mine, it was the rubber pipe between the fuel tank outlet and the fuel filter. It was so badly perished that it broke up when I removed it.

Dude, it's a T3. They have more character than the average pub landlady. Roll with the punches, fix what broke and don't fix what didn't... Face it, if it was 100% reliable and functional, you wouldn't love it nearly as much, would you? :D Take the connections off the starter motor and clean them we...

err, it's the door structure that you need to stop resonating. The Dynamat would be better randomly applied to the metalwork. Also much better to fit the speakers through the card into the door structure; much stiffer. Less output lost as vibration = more sound output... You don't really need 6x9s i...

From my experience: Using genuine VW parts is sensible but expensive. I spent £200 replacing all the worn parts... which was everything from the UJ back. You then end-up with a very stiff change; I've covered about 1000 miles since and it's still stiff, especially when the weather is cold. However, ...
