you are quite right. the original aaz turbo has four bolt flange, way different from jx. turbo also further back and higher than jx. think you will stuggle to have one made without the van,if someone takes the job on at all it will be a bend -it-a-bit and try for size process. apart from myself,i do ...

I was aware that just fitting petrol box wont raise gearing enough, out of curiosity how tall would you need to go with tyres if using 4 speed petrol box having 0.85 4th gear and 4.83 diff?
would they fit in the arches?

i've had alook in my autodata injection books. i dont have book 3 which covers the 1y in a golf but book 4 covers 1y in seat. it shows a pump very similar to yours.it is not a standard mechanical pump. some pump control functions are electronic. the glow plug control module controls these functions(...

if i remember rightly,a reliable source quoted over a grand for the proper injectors.there was also a surcharge.
whether you go mechanical or retain the electronics, what do you plan to do about the gearing?its the only problem preventing me from fitting a tdi.

i dont think he does conversions anymore though, seems exchange full recons by mail order are the bulk of his business nowadays.tdi's and pd's.
i could enquire for you though,i need to see him about some parts.
bear in mind though,he doesnt sell second hand engines.

thanks for all the replies.
i could get a fair pile of them crackers for £150!
the various clearance issues make it a nonstarter.
it was just a thought to improve the range of the van, tank is a freebie i was offered.

I agree with you both in the situations you quote. I wouldnt want to be stranded in the middle of nowhere with a complex electronic problem. Or limited to the fueling map intended for a standard motor when building a competition engine. But for a road going camper for instance, which will not be up t...

Doing away with the electronics of a TDI in my opinion defeats the object of fitting one. The ECU has many functions a mechanical pump cannot provide alone. eg, anti jerk damping, helps setoff from standstill, smooth running control, improves idle etc. You could also gain an immobliser, depending how y...

I spent nearly two years typing a very long and detailed reply to you, pressed preview ,log on screen appears and my efforts lost! bugger! Condensed version. For straightforward conversion using off shelf parts-choose jx turbo etc (that you already have most of). For hours spent underneath van in win...

Yes,very interesting. I was playing with the idea of doing away with the battery tray and using that space, but that means relocating battery in van,I presume under the seat as per petrol. With heavy leads to help volts drop. The pics of intercooler were good. I see he cuts the floor out to enable use...

presume tdi has pull clutch as aaz so flywheel unuseable. look on old forum for clutch thread in engine forum, alternative flywheel and clutch ideas there. airbox-its a question of space in the engine bay.the turbo on my aaz sits where the jx box lived.the only place the aaz box could go is on the o/...

Soory, should have been more specific, mines a panel van. I presume there is more space under the load bed of a dropside. With closer inspection its apparent the only space I can use is behind the n/s tail light as thats where the snorkel runs to. But thats where me intercooler was going. hmmm. And bo...

AAZ airbox

To anyone using aaz with original manifolds and turbo-what have you done regarding airbox?
This probably applies to TDI engines also in that jx part dont fit.

AAZ

The windage tray is a lot thicker than paper gasket and needs longer bolts really. Depending on oil pump type it doesnt fit over fitted pump-so you fit pump, try to fit tray, remove pump, fit tray, refit pump! Bolt engine to box, find bellhousing to sump bolts misaligned. And they arent cheap,£20 plus. (...
