Member No.2512 Pete Holding based in Sheffield .Found the site when looking for a club for insurance purposes. Was in the SSVC but sold my '64 Kombi last year to buy this late type 25. It was imported by Steve Walker (VW Retro/Volksworld) from Hanover in September last year. I haven't done anything to it apart from add some Porsche Cups and have it lowered....put some avo shocks on the front cos it was a bit bouncy. Drives like a dream and so far don't regret selling the split .
Member No.2515 Bill and Kim Edmunds based in swanage, dorset. I found you through a search on google we bought her in 1996 I was offered her 3 times before I went to look at her because she was auto and had experiances of auto in the type 2 and really couldn't live with the lack of speed. After a test drive I was sold we now had her for 10 years and done 70000 miles over that time she now stands at 162000 she was gold seven seater we gave her a change to red and cream and now that our kids have grown up ther's no need for the extra seats so we're taking them out to make into a day van/ overnighter, not something I should do but really like her too much to let her go!

Membership No.2519 James Bain, based in Scotland.Found the site by doing a search on VW T25. Only owned my van for a few weeks, found it on the Samba site and traveled down south to buy it, spent a few days getting to know it in Cornwall before the 650 mile journey home to north east Scotland . Van is in excellent condition inside and out, a tribute to the previous owner who had it for 14 years. Its got a VEGE recon engine fitted 12,000 miles ago and runs / pulls superbly.
Member No.2544 Steffan Stringer based in Maidenhead I bought this 1988 16" Syncro Doublecab from a vendor in Belgium. He imported it from Sweden where there had been two owners one of whom was a chimney sweep. He added the canopy for me before I picked it up. Getting it licensed and plated in the UK wasn't as?difficult as I expected. I had some minor mishaps at the outset but have since found a great mechanic in Shiplake who sorted out my clutch and serviced my CV joints. Still have a nagging suspicion that my VC isn't 100% but will get him to look at that for me soon. The longer term aim is to get this beast rigged up as a backwoods camping support vehicle.
Member No.2571 Mary Saunders + Dan Watkeys based In Oxfordshire. We got our lovely black van a few weeks ago and we love it.  Unfortunately all the modifications are down to the previous owner and we can't take any credit at all!  He told us about your site and so I thought we should join.  We're off for our first camping trip this easter and I can't wait!
Member No.2574 Colin and Ally Barnes based in Lancaster We bought the van last Summer at the big VW festival near Malvern.  It lasted a couple of months before the engine died and has been off the road for most of the winter.  Now we're up and motoring again with a brand new engine and have just returned from our first big trip, a tour around Dorset and Devon.  What a dream!  we're total converts!

Member No.2578 Paul Mattinson based in Derby. I bought this 1983 1,9 Petrol Ex-German Army Crew Cab in Berlin 2003. I had worked in Berlin for 6 years and bought this to help me move my life back to the uk. Its amazing that all my personal belongings can fit in the back of a van and believe me...it was FULL. I registered the van in August 2003 and have kept it ever since. I have always owned VW's and my first car was a LHD Beetle and have mainly driven LHD vehicles. When I picked-up the van from the supplier the clock read 106254km that's only 66000 miles! I love these rock solid vehicles and this on has been so usefull. I go camping and mountain biking a lot and I can easily fit in four friends, five bikes and all the camping stuff without problems.
Member No.2580 Ju Monk based in Cumbria. I bought it late last year for a few pounds and have since then begun some welding, repairs etc.  She is a very stock transporter panel van in her original colour, and has done under 70,000 miles since new on the same (apparently rubbish) 1600cc CT engine, and still chugs along just fine.  Hoping to have her MOT'd in the next few weeks and have her as my daily drive.
Member No.2587 ANDREW  (Andy) TERRY based on the Isle Of Wight. We have owned this van for two years now,The only mods it has are the blue windows and the friendly sticker on the tailgate. It has successfully taken us to Cornwall and Wales several times and regularly travels to Wiltshire to visit the rest of the family. As we have four kids it seats them with plenty of room so the arguing can be kept to a minimum (although it doesn't stop it) the purchase of a portable DVD helps as well! Eventually I want to upgrade the engine and interior, but the lack of money is slowing this down (four kids again!)Look forward to any contact with other "wedgie" owners
Member No.2588 Kevin Peacock Based in Devon We bought this van 12 months ago and no matter what the rest of the world may think it is our brick and makes us smile. We will be taking her to this years reading festival to add a bit of class to proceedings. If you spot us there or on the RTTTS give us a wave...

Member No.2590 Jamie Rawsthorn based in Chelmsford Had the van for about six months now.....was an empty panel van when I got it but more or less fully camper-converted now. Booked in with the (according to lots of you) very reputable Gasure next month, should be lowered with an extra window and a rear sunroof by then.

Member No 2612 Matthrew Gibbs based in Somerset. We got in to camping after a divorce and had to do holidays on a budget and soon found out being wet is not much fun so after one wet week in July last year (2005) we arrived home and went to the Mecca called eBay placing a silly bid on a type 25 I must confess I wanted a bay but as I said we are on a budget. the auction ended at 1pm and to my surprise we had won £1080 for a 83 high top fsh mot tax 3/4 tank of fuel, interior 2 years old recon water cooled engine with 27,000 miles on the clock, new brakes inc discs, all in all a barging in my eyes, even if she is a bit rough around the edges.

Member No 2633 Tony Yates based in Bristol.Have a white  83 T25  with pop top, Which I saw for sale in local ‘Trade-it' free ads paper. Was air-cooled engine whose big ends and piston had gone. But it looked lovely inside – nice veneers and panel covering etc.  Danny at Heron Garage Bristol told me of another accident damaged van with a 1.9 diesel engine for sale. Bought that Danny removed Air-cooled and fitted Diesel. Big job, bigger than we had thought as Danny hadn't factored in that my van was not water-cooled. kids love it   and we've got the large Berlin Awning from Just Kampers which is great for a largish family. Drive it every day to work and for picking up kids from school.  Also very handy for taking things to the city dump. Now know that the engine is a 1Y type from useful manual on VW diesel s bought at Malvern Vanfest last sept. Might consider upgrading to Turbo diesel but not sure it's worth the hassle.
Member No 2634 Phil and Sandra Morgan based in Pontyclun Having waited for years, we finally took the plunge and bought our first van in January this year.  We found your details through a msn search on the internet and liked the sound of the way your club is run.  Some of the stories sounded similar to ours. We found an advert for a converted transporter that we liked the look of.  We set out on the 7 hour journey from south wales to bradford as excited as children on xmas morning.  We saw our 'van to be' on the driveway of its current owner and knew straight away this was the one for us.  The previous owner had lavished care and attention on it and the work carried out was superb, a full conversion from van to camper, including pop top roof.  We spent a great half day with the owner and his wife before starting out on the drive back home, our first in our new vw.  It was fantastic: dark, raining and windy.  We loved every mile!  Since getting home, we've been on various trips to west and north wales and are looking forward to a long summer of sunny weekends away
Member No 2650 Andrew Strachan based in Bedford .(Yellow Peril): I've owned my 1983 VW 2ltr air-cooled Autohomes Kamper for 13years & would never ever consider to go back to an 'ordinary' vehicle. The photo was taken a few years ago at Glen Nevis, Fort William. Ben Nevis raises majestically behind the trees. Trust me, It does!! We drove non-stop from Bedford to Gretna Service Station, then onto Fort William, with a short sight-seeing stop at Loch Lomond. It was late, about ten thirty, the first week of June & being the Highlands......cold. Too late to pitch up at a camp site, we parked up in a supermarket car park. Coffee......albeit instant........from the campers gas stoves was pure nectar. The 'yellow peril' had performed amazingly. My two friends came with AA & RAC membership between them (such lack of faith!!!), it was not need. The only requirement was an oil top up!! Without a doubt, the most reliable & fun vehicle I've owned!! What a cracking web site!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sincere thanks to 'Poohvan' for leaving a Club 80-90 flyer on my VW!!

Member No 2653 Andrew Downsbased in Newcastle, Staffs . I was looking for a simple camper van and the layout of the T25's seemed to be the right one.  The viking roof has a space saver slide out which gives three adult berths in the roof so the kids can come as well.  I went on google in order to find as much info about aircooled vans, I knew a little but that knowledge needed reinforcing, and that's how I found this site.  The van is apparently called Bertie and it has done 76000 miles, a figure I can only assume to be accurate thanks to the vast amount of paperwork that came with it.

Member No 2680 Christian Gilbert based in Leeds. I had been after a T25 for years after a disastrous spell owning a T2 in the late 90's, and started travelling to view them properly Spring 2005. I got disheartened after viewing about 5 total utter wrecks on the runs (and spending lots of money on petrol to do so) and gave up. I got the fever again this year and after weeks of searching found my current baby which we bought for £3300. She was imported last year by a camper company in Wales called MPIcampers.co.uk, although I never had direct contact with them, as I bought it from it's first UK owner who couldn't afford to run it. She is my 'car' and I go everywhere in her, shops, work, off licence etc - sometimes we go camping! My girlfriend Hazel also has the fever now and makes quality curtains for T25s after making a set for ours of course!

Member 2686 Stephen & Janet Marsh Based in Cardiff, South Wales
This is our 1983 1.9D water cooled transporter, which we have christened “EARL”We bought EARL in February this year, Cheap from e bay because of all the rust. So far we have replaced six body panels, lowered the suspension by 55mm, Re-furbished the brakes, various new track rod ends and ball joints replaced and refurbished all grills, bumpers & mirrors etc. and purchased an awning. “OH” and bought the biggest Merc AMG Alloys you've ever seen Hope to be back on the road soon as the kids (Nicole, Rhian & Dominic) are driving us mad “when can we go camping” every minutes.

Member No 2689 Tim & Taneisha James-Hammond based in Dunstable We enjoy owning our LHD "wasserboxer" multivan, we try to go on as many short trips as possible, we have a huge awning that helps with the extra space. Our van is quite distinctive with the 80's decals so if you see us about come and say hi. Would definitely recommend the T25 scene to anyone looking to enjoy their leisure time and get away from it all! See you around.
Member No 2697 Mike, based in Bognor Regis Was just surfing the web and your club popped up.
The bus doesn't have a name as such. though the other half reckons it looks like a maggot! its an '87 2.1 watercooled job. haven't taken it anywhere yet cos the clutch went on its maiden voyage, which was a tad annoying to say the least! the paint is pearl and changes colour in sunlight
Member No 2700 Andy Hood based in Scotlans. 106 Diesel Westfalia. It goes really slowly up these Scottish hills... The amazing brown painwork helps hide the rust!

Member No.2740 Val Wilson . 22 years old and has covered just 84,000 miles. It is totally original in bodywork, engine etc.One elderly owner has kept this van in pristine condition from new, gaining many Volkswagon Owner's Club Awards through the years Almost all the mileage has been covered abroad, and it has seen service from the Baltic Coast to Southern Spain. The highest European road passes have been climbed, including the Col de La Bonnette - which is Europe's highest at 10,600 feet. It has followed the course of the Danube to Budapest and beyond.

Member No. 2754 Jim And Wendie based in London. It was a very straight but very ratty old white panel van in February. As you can see, it's had an intensive makeover in the 5 months since. It's been sprayed in the grey colour from a Nissan Figaro. It was a pain to get the paint code but worth it - has a lilac-ness to it in the sun.  18" wheels off a new Audi S4. These had to be drilled out and custom centre caps made. Then there was a JK vintage style roof rack and a chromed rear ladder.   Lowered by 40mm at the back and 45 at the front.  We tried to go lower but the arches need rolling - something for later. Finally for now, smoked lenses all round, though these may get swapped for clear.  Then inside we've had a really simple but well designed and put together camping interior with r&r, hob and grill, electric cool box, coffee table and buddy seat. Its finished in an oak veneer - it looks smart. Theres also a nice MP3 head unit, but we haven't got round to speakers yet.  Other plans include some engine stuff and cream leather. We've been away every weekend since it was finished and absolutely love it. The perfect van for parking in London and camping in Devon.

Member No.2768 Tracy & Paul Curtis, based in Gloucs We've just won ‘Ralph' on German E-Bay- no we're not mad but have a good friend in Hamburg who checked him out (although he said I wouldn't buy it!), but is helping Paul drive it back from Germany at end of July. We had a bay westy van (vana called by our son) three years ago. ‘Sven' was sold as too petrol thirsty, slow, and we had to limp home from France after he blew.Good to know Paul has somewhere comfortable to sleep in the garage as he will spend so much time in there! So hoping after upgraded engine to a 1.9 TDI Ralph will fill our camping void (if he makes it back from the fatherland)

Member No. 2778 Colette Falloon based in BlackpoolId seen you at van fest and some one told me about the forum and how helpful everyone is if you have a problem with the van. Ive had my van for four years and its been the best vehicle ive ever had, although the one with the most problems too. Really need a new engine , so if anyone can help that would be cool . i love going away and would go every weekend if i could afford to do so.
Member No.2784 Chris Walker, Found you on Google and saw some posts about tappet noises like the ones I've got, van is a good original survivor, first owner kept it 19 yrs. I've added a split charge twin battery system which works really well,
Member No.2788 Steph Samson based in Alyth . I Heard about your site from a feature in an old Volkswagen Camper & Commercial mag dated September 2004, just bought a VW Devon on a Y plate. The van has a reconditioned engine in and needs lots of t.l.c.  The interior is functional but needs a revamp.  It's been resprayed recently (not brilliant but is ok from a distance) it's bright yellow and white as opposed to it's original cream and golden yellow colour. I know nothing about VW's and am looking forward to reading up about some technical stuff and tips perhaps on rebuilding the interior.  The kids have named the van Pikachu for obvious yellowness reasons

Member No. 2790 Colin Baross based in Wilts. i first read about club80-90 in an article ages ago titled wedgewood the last year i met some members at vanfest but it has taken forever to get down to doin this joinin thing. We've had our van since 2001 and love it dearly although we've had to soend quite a lot to keep it going but now hope we've turned the corner after replacing just about everything.Last summer i resprayed it and am very pleased with the results as i've never done anything like that before and doing everything on the drive or inthe shed was quite a challenge. We have a large family with my wife Sue and my four children Lucy 13 Katie 12 Bethany 9 and Joseph 8, its a great adventure to go away in the van also being cost effective as i probably could not afford to go away on hols so often if we did not have the van.I think its a great and look forward to seeing all of it.
Member No.2792 Dave Malam based in Colwyn Bay Transporter Twin Slider. Recently bought as an 11 seater...I'm converting it into a dayvan..Currently in manky white complete with the odd patch of rust. It's going in for a respray soon- I'm yet to decide on a colour. Once that's done, I can get on with the interior.
Member No 2804 Chris Smith based in Staines .I Linked to your site via UK Campsite website, everyone was recommending your club, thought I'd have a look. Member No. 2811 Tony Lewis based in Maida Vale, London I found details of the club while trawelling the net looking for advice on overheating and fan not operating. I'm pleased to say I found the information I needed. 1988 1.7 diesel Komet hi-top, 93k on the clock, 12k on the engine and all original interior fittings. Owned by Tony & Rachel of West London, we have had the van for 3 years and love her to bits. Most summers we take her down to Cornwall and to a couple of festivals, we also try to take her away for the odd weekend as well. Being our only vehicle, she is also happy running around town and on regular runs up to Shropshire to see our families.
Member No 2812 Gary Smallman based in Stoke On trent my T25 which is going to get modified very soon!!!!  Got some 16" Merc Penta alloys and going to lower it, Tint the windows and fit Big bumpers & colour code them. Also got a chin spoiler ready to fit and want a full width lower grille. Just recently took the engine out to do the head gaskets and ended up putting new piston rings in and grinding the valves in. She runs like a Swiss watch now! .

Member No 2819 Wanda based in Essex and found your site through VZi. We have enjoyed looking at the other vans and profiles on your site. This is our first VW and we think it is great!! We have done quite a lot of work to it and still have more to do. We have taken it to a couple of VW fests and really enjoy the club atmosphere. We have only had the kamper a few weeks and are now planning to buy a beetle over the next few months.
Member No 2821 Mark Mortimer, based in Cornwall. I have just become the proud owner of "The Mean Green Camping Machine" (MGCM).  We caught the 'bug' (forgive the pun) when I decided to make my wife's (Sam) long term dream of owning a Beetle.  Having become recent 'Dubbers' and met some briliant people at a meet at Route 38 (highly recommended if you are ever down this way) here in Cornwall we decided to ditch our boring salon and invest in a campervan, which is more suited to our new found lifestyle.    Enough about us and on to the van - Restored and fully resprayed in 2002. Reupholstered, big bumper kit fitted, alloys, twin headlights, spoiler, bullbar etc. Fully kitted kitchen, twin burner cooker, sink, fridge , the lot. Rock-and-roll twin bed, the kids sleep up aloft.  I fly up to Glasgow on Sunday 08/08/2006 to pick here up and start the long haul back to gods country. Owning a T25 and indeed the whole lifestyle is virgin territory for us, but we are very keen to learn and look forward to being members.

Member No 2832 Denuka Jones & Symon Waldron based in Kiddeminster. We first bought a van which had been stripped and just left in a mess so we took her on and now she has had a re spray and is currently undergoing internal work to fit her out as a camper. Whilst working on this one a bargin turned up an ebay for a panel van with all window glass and templates to convert to camper he has a bit of a gear box problem which we need to look at but we initially bought him for parts to do the other one up with. When we saw him he was in such good condition we couldn't break him to pieces and as he also came with 2 spare front doors and a rear tailgate which just so happened to be what we needed we decided we would keep him and he will be the next project. Our drive is a bit like a scrap yard at the mo but we are getting there, on a shoe string budget but the first one looks heaps better just with a re spray. We are having some parts trouble but that's mainly due to budget rather than availability, however we are struggling to find a windscreen for a good price… pics attached are of the first one before and sort of after. The first one is Dirty Gurtie and the second one is Burtie !! I saw a sticker on the back of a T25 local to us and then on a web site so I clicked the link and here I am!!
Member No 2833 Gareth Davies based in Staffs. Always wanted one, finally took the plunge! Plans to improve and use as much as possible. Spent 2 years working out what to get and club 80-90 proved invaluable!
Member No 2840 Dave & Laura Johnson based in Lower Darwen We have had this bewdy for 6 years now. When we bought it the first things to go were the decals and stripes. (sorry Mr. Holdsworth). Next to go were the steel wheels, to be replaced with a set of Porsche 90s. Nothing has been done to the interior, its still original and mint. A full respray was undertaken last year. Prior to our visit to this years world cup in Germany, it failed it's MOT because of a cracked spring, so now it's 60mm lower than on the picture do to a full set of G-max springs and shox.
Member No 2849 Ross and Yvonne Spence based in Lancaster This is the second van we've had in the last six years. Had some good times travelling up and down Britain. This van has recon vege engine after original blew up two days after buying it on way to Great North Run! Not a good start, but since then, touch wood it's been great, absolutely love it and wouldn't be without it.

Membership Number: 2852  Lewis Lack based on the Notts / Lincs border.  After learning to drive in a bay and passing my test 1 st time, I was hooked.  Some say if you cut through me I have Volkswagen written around the centre of my body … others say I am just VW nuts!   My first car was ... yes you guessed correctly, a beetle.  But after owning a few Audi and VW cars, I needed to get back to my roots.  So we got a T4 and then a T5 but the rear engine and sitting over the front wheels is what I really missed.  So we now own a T25 Caravelle GL … nicknamed Dora the Explorer and The Scooby Do VW by my daughter and son respectively. (yes they couldn't agree!).  She is a a 7 seater with a R&R bedseat in the rear so I am hoping to get out to some meets once we have collected the essentials for camping!  Technical stuff:  rebuilt 2.1 DJ engine running on LPG with an auto box (smooth and easy rider) and around 180,000 miles on the clock.  I got the rust sorted last year and a lick of paint to tidy her up … looks like the guy did use his tongue as it is not quite as good as I hoped!  At least MOT times are not a problem.  I've sorted the electrics so you will see me coming when I have my lights on!  I might lower her someday if the ride is not too hard! Love this website - Thanks for all the friendly advice and I am sure it will continue.

Member No 2854 Colin Dunlop based in Stirling, Scotland I found you after searching the web for parts and help after finding myself with a broken van that I know nothing about, and every garagelaughed at me. Luckily I did find an ex-VW vans mechanic who just loves my van,- an 89' Westy California! I've owned it for four years after buying it off a crook near Heathrow - my fault entirely. It pissed diesel and oil and broke down at Birmingham on the route home to Scotland. After help from the AA, a large garage bill, lots of new parts, and lots of help the running gear is solid. The inside was always immaculate and that's what made me all beer goggled and miss the engine and other problems ;). Next up is a bodywork touch up, new tailgate, and some nice wheels together with a mild lowering kit from Brickworks ;) Looking forward to some trips up North with the very young kids this year - and I'm so glad I got a high-top with the family now! I use it mainly for hillwalking trips and if you've spotted me it's probably cruising at 55mph on the A82 at the weekends taking in the view! ;-)

Her last owner was sad to sell, as he was being posted to Africa with the Salvation Army and had to leave the Isle of Lewis more or less as we were arriving from Swansea. The van started life in Jersey 1990 and spent time in Hampshire before moving to Scotland. Although like many people I have wanted a campervan since the day I could drive, it was a now or never moment when I saw her for sale. We've had a great summer this year, and I have a feeling there will be many more!

Member No 2873 Michael Hallett based in Suffolk. Well this is my fantastic 1983 devon, or (bailey) as she is now known on a normal weekend away this summer. Been after a van for a long time now as cheap way of camping with my kids. Found this one on ebay which was for sale just down the road from my home, so had to have her. she is in quite good nick for her age (normal spots of course) but last owners had patched her up when needed..shame about the colour, but hey it does grow on you!!..didnt pay much for her at all, so have spent the rest on getting her well equipped inside..and she is awesome!!! have to get a new poptop for her tho,so if any of you can help??
Member No 2884 Mark Spragg based in Carmarthen , Dyfed .Found you guys just surfing the interweb via google. Had van for four happy years now and had many a holiday away with two small children and she's plenty big enough……..Wouldn't change a thing. The kids love their “upstairs bedroom” and will happily play for ages even when we've returned from an outing! Only done 50k miles from new with one previous owner so she's in excellent nick and rarely needs any attention. Long live the Kamper!!!!
Member No 2891 Adam Bradford based in Bedfordshire . This is my first camper, purchased in September 2006. After looking at Type 2s I decided that I couldn't justify spending 3 or 4 grand on a total wreck with really old technology, and I happened upon this T25 Hi Top in the local rag for 1,800.Looks like it's done at least 190,000 miles, although could be 790,000 for all I know! The bodywork is the usual combination of rust, isopon and aerosol paint that you find in a 23 year old unrestored vehicle, and the whole thing needs a good clean, but mechanically it's quite sound. The last owner spent quite a bit on the engine and the owner before that spent even more on the interior. So it looks like the exterior is down to me! I plan to restore it over the next few months, including a possible respray, perhaps in a different colour, (my partner says she wants orange or purple), but it'll definitely be a working camper and not a show vehicle.

Member No 2918 James and Amy Wilson based in loughborough, leics and this our van Guzzle, a 1983 1915 cc pannel van. We bought the van earlier this year with the idea of just sticking a basic rock'n'roll bed in the back and using it for weekends away. However, to keep certain members of the party in the style to which they have become accustomed, our plans have chanaged and now he's going to receive a Hi top and full camping interior. We've owned several old air cooled VW's, but we have to say that our t25 is definately our favourite. Every time we drive him it makes us smile and with luxuries like heating and brakes that work we'll be holding on to him for a long time.
