Member 251John Edginton , (JohnE) This is my 3rd T3 though my first Wbx. Originally an '86 works panel van with a 1.9wbx (finally cooked @ 133K) it now has a lovely Laurie Pettitt 2.1 Mv with mild cams, solid lifters and twin choke Weber and pulls like a small train. Since I got in Feb' 2003 it's been panel beaten, re-sprayed with 2 pack factory Orange (original colour), dropped onto -60mm JK springs with heavy duty shocks and 16" AMG A-Line clones shod with 205/60/16 Bridgestone's. Lights up front are twin 'velle squares so I can almost see where I am going in the dark. On the window front it has factory tinted cab glass, opening quarters, windows on the sliding door and tailgate glass are 35% green. The interior now has a handmade headlining, laminate floor, 2/3 Bluebird R'n'R (infill store over the engine box) and all the interior panels have been deadened with roof flashing, insulated with loft matting and poly lined prior fitting to 3mm vinyl covered ply panels. Other bits'n'bobs include domestic battery on split-charge relay and a handy inverter. Still more to do but the good news is the van is getting used as my daily driver, family taxi and holiday bus. |

| Member No.284, Neil & Sue Casson based in Maghull, North Liverpool Capt Curl......in real life, . We only got the van in March 2002 but are delighted with it. I have owned a couple of splitty's and a bay window before, but this is just great. Good overall condition but needs a little rust removal from some of the seams and some bushes replacing to make excellent. Only done 68K from new !! | ![]() |
| Member No.285 Graham Lockett based in Swinton, 1982 2.0l Aircooled, I've owned my van for 3 years with few problems. We're off to France again this summer but we only manage a handful of weekends away in the UK. | ![]() |
| Member No. 286 Darren and Justine Lea-Grime based in Sale, we have a family of 6, and so a VW T25 was the obvious choice of vehicle for us. We bought our bus from a guy in Blackpool who wanted to convert it to a camper, but changed his mind, or so he told us. It is an '85 Caravelle 1.9. Within the first 50 miles it was obvious we had to do something about the fuel consumption, so we fitted a Weber replacement, this did the job. Apart from this we have done nothing in the way of modernization, not even the rust gets much attention, mainly due to cash and time. We had no idea of any type of scene when we bought our bus, but are now doubly happy with the investment, and all that it has brought with it! Waves and all! 'The Bus' as it is so imaginatively named, is our only means of motorized transport, and serves as a car, van, bus, shed, taxi, tree puller etc. etc. It is run throughout the year only stopping for a break when IT sees fit, usually on the M60, Thelwall Viaduct, or some other extreme location. We have had a few of the usual problems associated with T25s, but considering the amount of work the bus does, it owes us nothing. In short, it may be a bit sheddy(although the pics do make it look rather slick) but 'we love our bus' | ![]() |
| Member No.287 Karl Boak based in Hinckley, 1980 2.0l Aircooled. My bus is running the original engine (100,000 miles), although it was rebuilt with new bearings and rings about 7,000 miles ago. It is running twin 40's, a 009 dizzy, blue coil and a mild cam. The front indicators have been removed/smoothed and re-fitted into the headlights. The interior at present is very stipped out with only a pair of 'Cobra' front seats fitted. It is my daily driver and is a interesting vehicle to own, especially in the wet!. It is in need of some minor bodywork and has a set of lowering springs waiting to be fitted. | ![]() |
| Member No 288 - Dai Williams based in Wakefield, he is a 1990 2.1 right hand drive Syncro fitted with Reimo elevating roof. The rear window had been tinted by the previous owner & it had been used for transporting surf boards in and around Brighton since it was new and was regularly serviced by VW. I have fitted custom made" Mach 5." wheels with federal 235/75/15 tyres which have given an extra 50mm ground clearance. and seats from a Pug hot hatch onto the swivel bases that were already fitted. so far I have covered 2500miles since buying him on various camping weekends to the lake district, Derbyshire,Wales and the East Yorks coast with no problems to speak of. The Syncro is undergoing constant change and Has become valued family member that is more than capable of taking us and our dogs virtually any where with confidence | ![]() |

| Member No. 321 Chris Palmer, based in Norway, 1988 1.9 Caravelle Minibus, bought this red minibus, very tatty inside, no original seats and lots of scratches. but no rust, a good little project, I think. Its my first T25 after having a bug and a bay window some years ago. Living in Norway now (but English) i thought it might be handy having a cab heater that actually works, so it had to be watercooled. | ![]() |
| Member No. 330, Carl Brindley, based in Stoke on Trent, 1980 2.0ltr. Aircooled, purchased the camper last March 01, had a couple of great holidays in it down Devon, then the valve seat shattered across the head, off road for 8mths back on road again now, just been to Stamford Hall with all the splits(used to own one) Hope to see or hear from you all soon - Carl | ![]() |
| Member No. 343, Anthony Harris, based in Liverpool, 1980 2.0ltr. aircooled, we bought the van in May 2002 it has an 1982 engine fitted, needs some slight cosmetics but is otherwise solid, we're hoping to go away soon. | ![]() |
| Member No.351 Neil Way, based in Sussex, 1982 2.0 ltr. air cooled, bought as a bit of a wreck (6 months dormant) through a local "specialist". Re-sprayed and replacement engine upgrade (which is proving troublesome). May have taken on a bit more than we should (electrics/carbs etc) but determined to get it as 'right' as we can. | ![]() |
| Member No. 352 Terence Tully, based in Wolverhampton, "Roxy" has been with us for around two years, and has been used for holidays and for more general use such as shopping and going to work. Mechanically she has been fine, but she could do with a make over! Thanks to recommendations from fellow club members she will be "seen to" later on in the year when the holiday season winds down. The web site is great and I log on every few days to catch up on all the latest news and views from other members. "Roxy" (ROX 418Y) is a 2 litre T25 with a Sheldon hard top, and a very good homemade interior with all the usual additions. We have thoroughly enjoyed using her and have no plans at present to have her "adopted" Though an upgrade to a newer version in a few years time may happen. | ![]() |
| Member No.356 Darron Whiting, based in Nottingham, 1985 1.9 waterboxer, bought the vehicle in 98. Had it resprayed in 2000 & had new engine fitted in 2000 aswell, the cylinder head studs had corroded (sigh). We plan to do the interior to our taste next year when our daughter goes to school. Mechanically it is sound only had to replace rear gas struts on MOT since we bought it. Love the webby look forward to meeting the members | ![]() |
| Member No. 366, Tom Earnshaw, Richard Dewey & Eddie Benson, based in Cleckheaton, 1982 2.0ltr Camper, The van was bought by us 3 mates after completing our A Levels at Whitcliffe Mount school. Our dreams where to tour europe in a camper van, and became reality when we purchased our first van in June 2002 for £1000 from a mate Swampy. The van is in very good condition and has full working cooker, fridge, sink, electric hook up with 2 240v sockets and lights in the body and pop top. We are planning to give it a full paint job with Union Jack and Yorkshire Rose on the roof of the poptop. We are planning a maiden voyage to Whitby in North Yorkshire and look forward to joining the family of VW Campers. | ![]() |
| Member No.367 Mike based in Plymouth - 1983 1.6 Diesel Hitop. Bought the van in April 2002 to supplement my other modes of transport. The van had an engine rebuild about 12 months before I bought it. I have visited the Cornwall VW owners event on August Bank Holiday and attended the VANFEST, camping overnight. Although reliable, it is a bit scruffy but functional and economical, if lacking in the power to climb the Hills on Dartmoor. The only modifications I have made so far are a roof vent, a 1.6 TD with 5 speed box and a radio with CD changer. Externally, plenty of dents, patchy paintwork and some rusty seams, but I still love it! Plans for the future, get a paint job done and re-trim the interior to current layout. | ![]() |
| Member No. 371, Dennis & Jill Davis, based in York, 1986 Caravelle 1.9, We purchased the van, a caravelle automatic in July 2001, with mileage unknown. We believe it spent part of its life as a private hire taxi for airport runs in London and then later it was owned by some hippy type surfing dudes. This was confirmed by the amount of sand found, but sadly no wacky backy in the vehicle when we took ownership. | ![]() |

| Member No. 386 Paul Geary based in Essex 1982 2.0ltr Delux 2 berth Camper, bought van as a donor vehicle but was happily surprised how well it drove, then decided to keep it and after approx £3000 later I am even more happy with the result, spec. lowered 60mm (JK), new chrome beading to windows (main dealer), new screen (Top Tint) plus front and rear seals, a full 2K paint two tone white over red (VW codes), next phase will be fitting a set of 7 & 8 ins polished Porsche Fushe rims with red centres. | ![]() |
| Member No. 389 Mark Simmons based in Kent, Moya, my 1989 T25 1.9 Petrol Danbury Renegate in dark grey/blue with pop top. Purchased March 2001 after a roll-over wreck in my just restored 1972 Bay Mylberry. My little bruvver gave me his T25 books while I was in hospital and I got the 'weggie' bug... and Moya is frelling brilliant. I fitted the alloys from BBT as soon as I got her and have recently removed the box seats in favour for a custom storage/cooker/heater unit that I built. I fitted the gas heater at xmas as you can see from the pic we camp all year round. Our lifestyle realy revolves to a very large degree around my van and we are out in her getting on for every other weekend and enjoying the moment. | ![]() |
| Member No.391 Murray Driffil, based in Horsham, 1981 1600 Devon Moonraker, we bought our van in 1998. It has a 1600CT engine and was registered in 1981. The van was very original when bought, but very shabby too so was re-sprayed and the Devon stickers refreshed. A few internal doors were replaced and a leisure battery fitted, and one year later we were off to Europe for a year! We spent the summer touring France and the winter in Spain. No problems experienced apart from a faulty oil pressure switch. The van has been exceptionally reliable but the cylinder head is now blowing (OK when engine warm) but I have managed to source a 2LCU engine with gearbox - which was running when bought from a salvage yard. Will change to hydraulic and servo assisted brakes and clutch, when funds allow! Hope to have one more camping season before the transplant, and looking forward to it. | ![]() |
| Member No. 394, Mark Williams(MudLark) based in Bristol, 1988 2.1 Autosleeper Trident Syncro, 93K Miles. 3rd owner. Bought the van 2 weeks ago, time to introduce the kids to a way of life ! Previously had a 1958 splitty, a 1976 Transporter, a 1989 Transporter and a 1995 T4. The latest van was hunted down to provide comfortable camping, off road capability and towing. It has a few sins on the bodywork with rust that will need sorting, and Im trying to decide if the VC is sound or not. | ![]() |

| Member No.400 Keith Coomber based in Woking, 1.9wbx mini bus called 'scuba-bus'. Not a great name but cant think of anything else at the moment to call it! Bought in July 2002, originally a minibus but previous owner did the wood you see, i did all the rest since. Rock and roll bed from mdf, foam, material etc etc all by my fair hand. And i made the curtains on my mums sewing machine and im a 34 yr old bloke! Head lining painted with one pot of fishermans blue tester from homebase for 99p which is my hot tip to restore tired linings. Originally all brown in colour, recently finished hand painting satin black with enamal. If anyone else is considering this cheap alternative to a spray job, one tip. Use a gloss roller, the foam kind and do three thin, even coats at least with thinned out enamal. Works much better than paint brush unless you are an expert. Now its virtually matt black which is different and cool. Bought to transport me and sleep me in my scuba diving expeditions in uk but am now firmly getting into vw scene and i will have a splitty one day. hope you can include some or all my pics, im especially proud of the interior as it was all me except the actual wood cupboards, cooker etc. And its got an oven! | ![]() |

Then I am off round Devon.. It needs a re-paint and the insides updating but so far I love it to bits. | ![]() |

Member No. 422 Sean Hoban based in Workington 1991 1.9 Caravelle, bought the van October last year after owning several air cooled cars/vans and enjoying going to shows in the summer. It was in full caravelle trim with a recon motor. Both sides of the van were damaged due to bad parking and neglect I had these straightened out and painted before lowering it 60mm with jk springs and dampers I then removed the interior and converted it to a camper. Weve been away this year camping with the kids and thoroughly enjoy it. At Tatton park I got a set of 16" Merc alloys which are being fitted hopefully before action and vanfest. Many more mods to follow over the years and plenty of adventure - UPDATE! Three years on and now we have a westy roof, removed the ML alloys and replaced with 16'' AMG's and installed a Subaru legacy 2.2 engine. Ready to fit now are carat mirrors and side skirts when painted in body colour along with the bumpers. Have a leisuredrive interior to install at some point. Had many breaks away between lands end and fort william and been to lots of vw shows. |

We bought the van in spring of 2002. I'm not going to add up how much we've had to spend on it, but new engine, petrol tank and lots more. But it's been worth it. We get away in it as much as possible, just love the freedom, why didn't we buy one years ago? | ![]() |

| Member No. 465 Dee & Paul based in Southsea, 1982 2.0ltr Camper, known as Myrtle has been in the family since May 2002. We adopted her from Jack at The V W Camper Centre (Portsmouth) who have looked after us and Myrtle very well indeed as we have had a few minor problems and the big fat scary gear box one. Myrtle was converted by an enthusiastic AA man (by all accounts a very nice man) and then owned by an elderly couple. She has since undergone something of a radical lifestyle change and has transported and accommodated us on most summer weekends to many outdoor events (psychedelic picnics, woodland escapes and beach parties.) The home made interior and fitted utilities, although practical and in good order have been cheered up with some glow-stars, orange paint, comfy new seats AND YES …the Mrs. Made curtains. At the end of another long and enjoyable summer Myrtle needs some TLC to prepare her for next summers fun and festies. | ![]() |
